Labriola’s at Penn Hills

The Penn Hills will be closing its doors to customers and will not re-open.

The sights, sounds, and smells of the Labriola Italian Stores are best captured in the Penn Hills location. It is here where you can see the boxes of inventory lining the aisles and piling up to the ceiling, where you can hear the greetings between our customers and staff as friendly family exchanges, and where you can smell the mix of the anise, Italian products, and baked goods that compose the signature aroma of Labriolas. This is where the original store was relocated from Larimer Avenue to the intersection of Hulton and Saltsburg Roads. This is where all four second generation siblings worked alongside their parents to establish this local family business. Penn Hills provides the hub to the new spokes that have extended to the surrounding suburbs of Aspinwall, Monroeville, and Warrendale.

In recent months, COVID lead to adjustments for our business. We closed the store to protect the vulnerable employees at this location and the Penn Hill Store became the center kitchen that supplies the other stores with some of our freshly made products. During the last few months, we have considered all options to re-evaluate and reopen. We explored renovated space and new services, but in the end, we decided that the store will remain closed to customers. It will continue to be the center hub for the other stores. We deeply regret not being able to return to the original services, but we understand that with changing times means changing opportunity.

We are appreciative of the good years that we have had at this store. Our dedicated customers drive our business each day. Our longtime employees became our family. Recently, we have been touched by the outpouring of concern and support for this store since it initially closed. We are thankful to our customers for changing their routines to shop at our Aspinwall and Monroeville locations. We are working hard to make this transition easy for you. We will continue to offer local delivery services through our website that will cover delivery to the Penn Hills and surrounding eastern suburbs. Rose will be assisting at the Warrendale location to set standards for the next generation so the traditions can carry on.
